Ingredients
2 cup |
self raising flour |
60 g |
butter - soft |
3/4 cup |
milk |
1/2 tsp |
salt - preservative only if not eating today |
Equipment
Method
- preheat oven to 200C
- put flour in bowl
- add butter in cubes and rub in
- add salt if not eating today
- pour in about 0.5 cups of milk and cut it into the flour with a butter knife
- add the rest of the milk a little at a time until you have a dry dough, depending on humidity you may need more or less milk
- tip onto well floured surface and kneed lightly then press flat about 2cm thick
- grease baking tray with butter or canola oil
- cut out scones and place on tray touching each other
- glaze tops with milk
- bake 8-15 minutes until golden
Notes
you can substitute 0.25 cups of water for some of the milk
for sweet scones add 1 tsp of sugar with the salt
serve with cream and jam or lemon butter
