Beef and Red Wine Pie

Ingredients

beef (1/2kg mince 1/2 kg chunks) |

plain flour |
| 2 tbsp |
tomato paste |
| 125 mL |
red wine |
| 500 mL |
beef stock |
| |
parsley |
| |
thyme |

rosemary |
| |
pepper |
| 3-4 |
puff pasty sheets |
Equipment
- oven
- pie dish
- heavy based frypan
Method
- chop onion and saute in large frypan
- crush garlic and add to onion
- cover beef in flour
- remove onion from pan and set aside
- brown beef on high heat, reduce heat and return onion to pan
- add tomato paste and red wine and stir, simmer to reduce wine
- add beef stock herbs and pepper, stir
- simmer to reduce liquid and thicken sauce then remove from heat and alow to cool slightly to thicken sauce
- grease pie dish
- line pie dish with pastry
- tip beef into pie dish
- cover with pastry
- glaze pastry with milk
- bake at 200C 30-40 minutes or until pastry is golden
- eat hot
Notes
can also add sliced mushrooms about 200g when you return the onion to the pan
also good with bacon, slice 4 rashers and add to pan with beef
pie will keep for a few days in the fridge
serve with roast veggies, steamed greens or a salad
