Date Scones

2 1/3 cup White flour
4 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp Cinnamon
2 tbsp Raw castor sugar
60 g Butter
175 mL Milk
1 Egg
100 g Dried pitted dates
Flour for kneading
Milk for glazing



  1. Oven to 180C fan forced
  2. Dice dates into 8 pieces each
  3. Combine flour, baking powder and cinnamon
  4. Cut butter into cubes, rub into flour mix
  5. Add sugar to flour mix
  6. Combine egg and milk make a well in the flour and pour in milk mix, cut together with a knife to make a moist dough
  7. Add dates and tip onto floured surface
  8. Knead lightly and press to 2cm thick
  9. Cut out and place on greased baking tray
  10. Brush with milk
  11. Bake 10 minutes, perhaps a few minutes longer


Serve with butter and/or jam and cream
